Neogen® Sponge-Stick
Discover the Neogen® Sponge-Stick: Your essential tool for effective sample collection in hard-to-reach areas.
This 1.5 x 3 inch biocide-free cellulose sponge is attached to one end of a stick and pre-moistened with a neutralizing buffer diluent for sample collection. The Neogen® Sponge-Stick allows a worker to collect samples without touching the inside of the bag, maintaining the integrity of the sample. The stick also facilitates access to hard-to-reach areas and enables sample collection without directly handling the sponge, making it ideal for drains, pipes, and around equipment. The stick also features a thumb support to avoid contact with the sponge. Once placed in the collection bag, the sponge easily detaches from the handle, making handling and transport easier. The pre-moistened sponge is durable, biocide-free, and does not affect organism viability. Its cellulose material is absorbent and effectively holds the sample without excessive dripping. The Neogen® Sponge-Stick comes with a Neogen® sample bag with a capacity of 30 oz/0.89 L to safely and conveniently transport the sponge to the lab. They are decontaminated by gamma irradiation for long shelf life. This product is manufactured in the USA with globally sourced materials.
HACCP Approach: The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) approach is the world's most widely adopted food safety management protocol. Sampling products from Neogen® are an essential part of this approach to identify potential foodborne hazards and determine their location. Portable, stable enrichment media and easy-to-use swabs and sponges are designed to test for a variety of potential hazards and deliver exceptionally accurate results. They are designed to safely transport contents from the collection site to the lab without leaking or compromising the sample.
Use of Neutralizing Buffer: The use of neutralizing buffer is recommended for surface testing to detect microorganisms that may be present on milk and food equipment disinfected with chlorine or quaternary ammonium compounds. It can inactivate the bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects of chlorine and quaternary ammonium compounds. Neutralizing these chemicals is crucial for the accurate detection of potentially harmful microorganisms. The use of neutralizing buffer is common in the microbiological examination of surfaces according to standard methods for the examination of dairy and food products.
